1). Hugo – Scorsese weaves together his many passions and concerns: for art, for film, and for fathers and father-figures. He retells the story of a boy (Hugo Cabret, played by Asa Butterfield) in search of a way to complete his father’s work.

2). The Avengers – The only PG-13 movie on the list, The Avengers is not just for kids, but if they’re mature enough to handle it, they’re sure to enjoy.

3). The Secret of Kells– Set in 8th-Century Ireland, our hero is the 12-year-old apprentice Brendan, who befriends a forest spirit namd Aisling in his quest to protect The Book of Kells from Viking invaders.

4). Mulan– A touching retelling of a Chinese folktale—a wonderful move by Disney to give its target market a strong heroine, whose bravery and sense of duty and honor is admirable.

5). Rabbit – Proof Fence– The true story of three “half-caste” sisters forcibly taken from their aboriginal home to re-education camps in 1923. They escape and make the long journey home, partly along the country’s long rabbit-proof fence.
