#MixedMe4Change “The Beyond Project”

The first #MixedMe4Change feature is here! Everyone, we  would like to introduce you to… “The Beyond Project”

The Beyond Project was created by  Seattle based co-founders Rachel Hile and Jessica Dahl. Both Rachel and Jessica  separately dreamed of using their professional skills to impact lives in their communities.  Rachel and Jessica were stylists in the local Seattle area. In 2006, Rachel dedicated time volunteering her styling abilities to women in need at her local salon. It wasn’t long before she began providing “makeover days” for girls from low income households, haircuts for foster kids and prom makeovers.

During the same time, Jessica Dahl was traveling the world teaching yoga and fitness to underprivileged children. In villages across Central America, Africa and Asia she provided free haircuts to the villagers. Jessica was awed watching how the simplest trim could bring joy and self confidence to those in need!

Fast forward a few years later to 2015, Rachel and Jessica decided to come together to form The Beyond Project. Their organization focuses on providing free beauty and wellness services to those have been impacted by sex trafficking, domestic violence, homelessness as well as at risk youth and foster children.

“If an individual is coming out of domestic violence, sex trafficking, homelessness and other
hard circumstances, they need to feel empowered in themselves. We believe that empowerment through self-care is the key to restoration and hope to individuals to live to their fullest potential!” – Jessica Dahl

Each month, The Beyond Project partners with other non profit organizations to provide basic haircuts, nutrition programs, skincare, yoga, and fitness routines. Some of the partners include United Way and YWCA in addition to others such as: domestic violence shelters, sex trafficking agencies and homeless teen shelters.

Currently, The Beyond Project has launched a team in Los Angeles and are planning to be in Chicago, Atlanta, Utah and other US cities this coming year!
